Thoughtful

Thank you to Park Avenue Princess for tagging me with the One Lovely Blog Award.

It was very sweet and thoughtful of her to think of me for this award. I feel honored. :-)I always enjoying reading her blog and looking at the beautiful pictures of her city. She also likes to recommend products and fashion pieces that work for her and might be useful to someone looking for something similar.

If you have a minute click on over.

RIP MJ

This was the first album I purchased when I was a teenager ('79). As soon as I got home from the store I listened to it for hours. I loved it and because of my packrat tendencies, I held on to it. Thank goodness. Today, I pulled it out of the abyss only known to me as my "storage".

A few random tidbits...
- When I was attending FIDM in Los Angeles ('83-'84), MJ was filming the infamous Pepsi commercial nearby. The word spread quickly about the hair-catching-on-fire incident. Several of us jumped in a car and drove down, but by the time we arrived, the area was clear of any activity.
- My roommate at the time had jokingly mentioned a plan to make a music video with MJ to her parents at the airport, someone overheard and believed it to be true. It was their inside joke. Ironically, she started dating someone who actually knew MJ, but alas never got to meet him.

When you hear Michael Jackson's music you can't help but to reminisce about a specific time in your life; the good times, when dancing was fun, songs were clean and the energy was high.

I miss the good times.

RIP Michael Jackson.

ETA: Of course, I can't forget to include two icons from different eras in this post ... Ed McMahon and Farrah Fawcett. Both had an impact in everyone's lives in varying degrees and will be remembered as legends. May they rest in peace.

PSA For The Ladies

The IB Fire Department paid a visit to the Kinder kids this morning.
As a good citizen of this great community, I feel it is my duty to bring you a pictorial showing the great service our firefighters are doing to educate the kidlettes in fire safety... and a little somethin', somethin' for the ladies.

Picture #1 - Shiny red fire truck. The Kinder kids loved all the tools in the side compartments and the lights.

Picture #2 - Cute Firefighter (yowza) talking about.... uh... not sure, I was busy trying to focus on the subject.

Picture #3 - Here, Cute Firefighter is showing the Kinder kids their fire gear. Is it me or does this picture remind you of a scene from Sex and the City? You know the one where the girls go to Staten Island with Carrie to judge a Firemen of NY contest and Samantha took one home....a man, not a calendar.

Picture #4 - Close-up of Cute Firefighter. I was trying to be discreet as I took this snapshot because the Captain was standing behind me, but I think he was on to me.

I hope you enjoyed this short pictorial as much as I have enjoyed putting it together for you. :-)
Next week, the Sheriffs are coming to school.

The Latest

I have a note for my blog absences.
Apologies to the few bloggers that pop in to read a little something or other about the latest happenings in my knitting life or otherwise. Thank you for hanging in there and thank you for the kind comments. :o)
Lately, I've been prepping material for the first week of Mrs. M's, 2009-2010 Kindergarten class.
Oh my gosh, did I just type 2010!?!?!

I'm working with a Kindergarten class through the end of the school year, which ends next Thursday.
I'm exhausted! Is it Friday yet?
Their teacher, Mrs. M, had vocal chord surgery and she's not allowed to talk, literally, for two weeks - doctor's orders!
She asked me to sub for her while on medical leave and I happily accepted.
To ask a Kindergarten teacher not to talk is like asking a canary not to sing.
I feel for her though... Mrs. M is a happy talker.
She's been teaching for more than 20 years and is known to be one of the best teachers in the school district.
She's has an extensive collection of educational materials in her classroom from her many years of teaching.

On the knitting forefront...I finished the flouncy scarf but didn't take a picture of it. Drat!
I assure you, it came out beautiful; the color, the length...very nice. The ribbon yarn is amazing and perfect for a feminine or romantic looking scarf.
Here are the stats.
Needles Size: dpn's size 3. I think the needles were meant for sock knitting, but whatever works.
Yarn: Sensations Flounce tape yarn in purple flounce.
Pattern: I used every bit of information I could find on the internet for the pattern. In the end, I think I followed the Online pattern found at http://www.online-garne.de/
Mods: Unfortunately, the pattern did not have BO instructions. I treated it like any other bind off and hid/weaved in the visible edge.

My friend included this colorful ribbon yarn for me in the bag of goodies.

She's very thoughtful.
Now it's time for a ruffled scarf for myself. I'll be sure to take some snapshots of the FO.
Now it's time for some rest. The Kinder kids wear me out. Plus tomorrow the firefighters are paying a little visit to the school and I'm in desperate need of some beauty rest.
I can't wait... I'll try to post some pictures of the good looking firefighters.
:o)

S'mores

I have an admission to make. I have never made s'mores...
...not even at 6th grade camp. OMG!! My youth was deprived of many s'mores-making moments. I've gone as far as to roast marshmallows, but never smooshed it between two graham crackers and a chocolate bar! What's wrong with me?
This doesn't help that I'm craving chocolate in a major way right now and we all know this means only one thing... I have some shopping to do.
I found this mouthwatering picture posted on Oneprettything.com By following the link, I came across six sinful and delicious-looking s'mores recipes on the Sunset.com website. After browsing through all of them, it looks like the peanut butter cookie s'mores recipe is the winner...but that's just me. Yum!
Which one is your favorite?

The Flounce

I've been working on something soft...

something with lots of ruffles...

something aesthetically pleasing.

A beautiful ruffled scarf.

After two video tutorials, three written instructions and many pictures to guide me, I have the makings of a flouncy scarf. It's not as easy as it looks. Trial and error at first, but by following some guidelines and a lot of determination, you'll be swimming in a sea of ruffles in no time.

I'm knitting this scarf for TKK, a devoted fashionista and dear friend. One of TKK's fellow dog park buddies, who is also a knitting enthusiast, was wearing a ruffled scarf just like the one pictured and instantly fell in love with it. Days later she made a special trip to the LYS and purchased everything needed for her newest accessory. There were a few more goodies in the bag that I'll post about later.
Happy Saturday. :-)

Sweetness

Look at this beauties!
Jen at Wife, "Mom", Knitter sent me these beautiful knitting stitch markers as a prize/thank you.
Aren't they awesome? And, she made them herself. She oozes creativity. The girl has talent.
Pop into her blog and check out the cute little moose she whipped up.

Once again, thank you Jen for the thoughtful gift. I love them! I'm putting them to good use right away.
