Doggy Couture

I have a friend, TK, who possesses a love for her dogs like no other. To her, they are her children. A chocolate lab and honey lab, well trained and great protectors. She showers them with fancy collars, doggy toys, and the occasional doggy sweater and every afternoon they visit the dog park for some exercise and socializing.
One chilly afternoon, the honey lab was sportin' a new argyle sweater. Apparently, a fellow dog park pooch had some intense feelings towards said garment and decided to do something about it. Before TK could jump in to the rescue, the jealous pooch took a nice chomp at the sweater. Of course, she was upset, but she is such a kind person, she let it go.
I told her the pet's owner owes her a sweater!
Anyway, the sweater is 100% wool and made in Ecuador.
I can easily make another one for her, the pattern looks easy enough, but saving this one is my mission.

After diving into my stash and having no luck with the pink yarn, I found some Lion Brand Yarn Hometown USA in Honolulu Pink at good ol' Wally's. Perfect.
Since it's a super bulky yarn, I have to split it to make it work. No prob.
Luckily, I did find the brown yarn in the stash but in a lighter shade, but was okay'd by T.

Let's hope it all works out... I hate to see a chilly dog at the park. Hahaha!
Happy Wednesday!

Freezing

I should be the last person complaining about the cold, especially when others are without power and buried in snow, but it's been freezing all week.
Yesterday, I wore my stash-busting scarf to work and received a couple of compliments. It served its purpose by keeping me warm and somewhat stylish. Right on.
One of the compliments came from a suspecting knitter.
I should have asked, but judging by her questions, she was definitely a crafter. Love it!
I'm not too sure if I've posted a picture of my scarf in the past, so here it is.
(it has more aesthetic appeal worn around my neck)

Long ago it was a hat and now it's a scarf. Warm and soft. Made out of Lion Brand Homespun yarn and Red Hearts yarn in a garter stitch.
Now, if I could only make a dent in the existing yarn stash that's taken over my closet :-/

Hope everyone stays warm and dry this rainy weekend.

TGIF!

Tuesday's Knit Hat

Not a very clever title, but what can I say?
It's to the point.
I thought I would share a finished knitted hat I made during my Online Blackout.
I made it for no one in particular, but when I showed it to my friend's daughter she really liked it...
And just like that, it had a new home and a new owner.
This little girl is growing up so fast right before my eyes.
I remember the day she was born, she let out the most beautiful cry the moment she entered this world. Fast forward to the present... she's in third grade, she's a great gymnast, excels in her studies, and likes all things girlie. So when I asked her if she wanted me to add a flower to her hat, shyly, she said yes. And, so I did.

please excuse the out-of-focus telephone pic

Pattern: Cables Untangled Hat
Yarn: Vanna's Choice in white
Needles: circular size 9
I made the same hat in red with a few more rounds for the next size up.
Instead of the flower, I added a pom pom.
My little friend liked it just as much as the white one and wore it all the way home.
It feels good when your knitting makes someone happy.

Making people happy, one hat a time.

A Sprinkles Kind of Day

Can you guess where I went on Monday?
It's near the Jesus-Christ of LDS Temple.
Can you spot it in the background?

They sell delicious treats and it's the only one in La Jolla.

It's Sprinkles Cupcakes.

I know a lot of people rave about these cupcakes in Los Angeles and made me curious to find out what all the hoopla was about.
Luckily for me, my dear friend treated me to their special cupcakes for my birthday. Btw, I'm 21 again. ;-)

I had the german chocolate cupcake with frosting that was dee-li-shus... also had a taste of the banana cupcake. It was good, but the chocolate frosting was waaaaay too sweet for my liking.

Would I go back? Sure. Would I recommend them to anyone? Why not? They have plenty of flavors begging to be sampled and sharing them with friends makes them even more tasty.

Also patronizing them is good for the environment and not to mention your conscience since Sprinkles Cupcakes is eco-friendly.
Hopefully this short post sweetened your week without all the extra calories.
Till next time with a much needed knitting post. :-)

Back Online

Wow, talk about a break... an unexpected one at that.
HP was about to receive a scathing letter from me about their shoddy products.
Having your computer crash at the most crucial time of year is absolutely not cool.
Thank goodness the sales guy at Office Depot knew exactly how to fix the problem, (which it turns out had nothing to do with the computer hard drive), unlike the "techs" I had to speak with in a different continent, who by the way, wanted to charge me $90 just to have me open up the back of my laptop. I don't think so.
It not only bothers me that so many jobs are outsourced, but that they have the nerve to charge a fee to follow directions they're reading off the computer screen.

Keep jobs in America, HP!

Now, I can take a deep breath and it's back to blogging. I have a lot of catching up to do.
I am determined to make this year a good one despite the hardships of life the universe is dishing out right now.

HAPPY 2012!!
