Pink Waves

MA's scarf is done. Yay!! The blanket the scarf is laying on is one of my first experimental striped crochet blankets I made years ago. I've moved on to knitting sailboats on baby blankets. ;-)

Please excuse the bad lighting in the picture.

I have yet to start the Twisted Vine Neckwarmer. As soon as I finish the sailboat baby blanket. I promise ( as I sneakily type this in the smallest font possible).

Come Sail Away With Me

I’m making this cute blanket for one of my favorite students I had the pleasure of teaching for a short time when she was in kindergarten. She is now in second grade and her mother is having a boy this summer and we’re very excited.

PS - Jen, thank you for coming to my aid and recommending the baby blanket pattern. It's next on my queue of baby knits. Update: The pattern for the baby blanket can be found here. Thank you Suzanne Veta for your generosity and creativity.

Spring Sewing

Last week, I went to the mall with my friends and discovered my first Lilly Pulitzer store.
From the window display you can see that Lilly represents all things bright and happy.
According to the sales associate it was the only Lilly store in town. Interesting. Even though I didn't make a purchase, I didn't leave empty-handed either. I was given a cute bag with some perfume samples and their catalogs.

Every year around spring and summer, I try to sew a few pieces to add to my wardrobe. Last year I made several summer tops. This year I'm going to attempt to make a shift dress. I was looking through the Lilly catalogs and found two dresses I believe I can make.

The yellow dress looks like fun, breezy and simple to make especially since I may already own the pattern.

The casual white dress looks perfect for a lunch get together or summer party.

I'm still knitting, but it's time to dust off my sewing machine.

Happy Spring!!

Sweet Tooth Knitting

As I snacked on these...

I was finishing these.

Yay! I have my first pair of arm warmers.
I basically followed the pattern for Toasty, but opted to count rows instead of measuring the length. The thumb was a challenge. The first thumb came out wacky (don't look too closely). On the second thumb I knew what I had to alter and had better results.
The pink scarf is the next project I absolutely need to finish.
On a side note, one of my favorite students I taught in a kindergarten class 2 years ago is going to be a big sister this summer. I was so happy to hear the news that I told her I wanted to make a baby blanket for her new baby brother. I only have a few months and I've already started the search for baby blanket patterns. I'm thinking squares. We'll see. Any suggestions are more than welcome.
DWTS was great to watch this week. I cringed as I watched the cowboy dance. Poor guy. You gotta give him some credit for dancing in front of millions of people.
My favorite was Melissa, of course. She was so graceful as she floated on the dance floor.
Pink for Education Day was a great success. Almost all teachers wore pink on Friday to show their support. It was pretty awesome to see educators and students on the news banding together.
Let's just hope, by the grace of God it helps.

Arm Charm

I should be working on my pink scarf but I decided to take the plunge and knit my very first pair of arm warmers. Since I like to spend a lot of time on the computer my wrists and hands tend to get cold and tense. Using Leslie's pattern, I cast on for my first pair of Toasties.
I should have knit the pair without the thumbs because it's a little intimidating trying to knit within a small circumference.
I have yet to conquer.
Another first for me was using two circular needles. I tried the magic loop method but couldn't get a handle on it. I've tried using dpn's but, it was a no-go. The two circulars seemed to be the best and most successful method for me.
This is what I have so far.

Pattern: Toasty

Yarn: Vanna's Choice in black

Needle Size: Two US9 circular needles, crochet hook for purl BO, size K 10.5

Mod Notes:
I cast on 36 sts, next time I'll use a needle one size up for a looser cast on and bind off, that's if I use the same yarn again. Given that I didn't use the recommended size needle or yarn, the outcome is noticeable. The bind off is tight and the yarn makes the garment dense, but very warm. I added a ribbed edge, but I'm going to go back to the stockinette stitch finish for some additional finger wiggle room.
